چکیده

Almost all the submicron metal particles in the glass coating of breccia 15286 are rounded and Contain two phases, metal and sulfide tEeS). The Ni content of the metal phase as determined by scanning transmission electron microscope X-ray analysis ranged from 9.4 to 15.5 tvt. The sulfide was nearly stoichiometric troilite containing up to 1.3 wt’ Ni. The close chemical and mi crostructural similarities between the coarse (>1 jzm) and the submicron sized metal indicate a com mon origin probabl as meteoritic debris. Metal-silicate melt experiments under controlled 10, indi cate that the metal particles may have formed from a fine dispersion of immiscible metal-sulfide droplets into an impact generated silicate melt.

Discovery of Discrete Structured Bubbles within Lunar Regolith Impact Glasses

The unusual morphology and internal structure of bubbles within lunar regolith impact glasses have been studied using traditional scanning electron microscopy and the novel technique transmission X-ray microscopy (TXM), with 3D tomography reconstruction. Here, we show the previously unknown phenomenon of building a highly porous cellular structure within bubbles in glassy particles of the dust ...

Mafic Granulitic Impactite Northwest Africa 3163: a Unique Meteorite from the Deep Lunar Crust

Petrology and Mineral Compositions: The fresh, pale gray interior of this specimen has multiple shock fractures (with very minor calcite coatings) and some thin glass veinlets (Figure 2). This rock is a poikiloblastic recrystallized breccia, with larger grains of plagioclase (~70%) enclosing much smaller grains (less than 100 microns across) of pyroxene (~20%), olivine (~10%) and accessory Ti-c...

Large Impacts at 4 . 2 Ga from Uranium - Lead Dating of Lunar Melt Breccias

Introduction: Crystallization ages of lunar impact melt rocks provide the primary evidence for a spike in the impact flux at ~3.9 Ga. Here we report U-Pb isotopic ages of accessory phases (apatite, zirconalite) in lunar melt breccia 67955 that confirm a crystallization age of ~4.2 Ga and reveal a younger overprint possibly related to entrainment of the breccia by one or more younger basins such...

Effect of Micro Glass Flake on Morphological and Rheological Behaviour of Epoxy Vinyl Ester Composite Coatings

In the present work, attempts were made to investigate the reinforcement and treatment effect of GF on morphological and rheological behaviour of GF/epoxy vinyl ester composites. GF was incorporated into epoxy vinyl ester resin by sonication, and mechanical agitation. Rheological and morphological properties were studied as a function of particle treatment and size distributions. The dispersion...

Discovery of stishovite in Apollo 15299 sample

High-pressure polymorphs recovered in terrestrial craters are evidence of meteoroid impact events on the Earth’s surface. Despite countless impact craters on the Moon, high-pressure polymorphs have not been reported to date in returned Apollo samples. On the other hand, recent studies report that the high-pressure polymorphs of silica, coesite and stishovite occur in shocked lunar meteorites. W...
